The operating system? In a hard disk drive everything else in a slice?
I brought a new draft and only has a 40gig hard drive and the draft his replacement has a 70gig hard drive. There is the same plug ins of SATA and the other is a kind of movie, so I was thinking of getting a 500 gig hard drive. So I leave my only OS on a hard drive and load all my programs on the new or should I load my operating system on my new??? I prefer to keep seprit my operating system if I so if I can just hang format and reload without losing all my programs. I am running XP Pro with SP 2
You really should keep their applications in Program Files on the same drive that your operating system can usually get away with installing software in a different folder or on a different drive, but I found that some applications just do not like when you try to do this (or not permitted at all), so I do not recommend. However, you can store all your documents, photos, videos, music, etc in a different hard drive without any problems. If you think your new concert 40 minutes by car not be sufficiently large to hold all their programs, then you'll have to clone more concert either age 70 or that the new performance unit 500. Also, if your Windows has dump in you and needs to be fully reinstated, most programs would be necessary to install, and (most applications today do not function properly without their entries in the Windows Registry). By the way, making bi-directional SATA to IDE adapter so you can use an older IDE hard disk with a newer SATA cable (or a SATA drive in an old style IDE cable), if desired. I'm using one on my PC right now.
