A CD of Windows XP Home reinstall it came with a job in another Dell PC OEM (for example, Compaq, Gateway)?
I use a relocation Dell Windows XP Home CD to install XP on a Compaq PC. Is this possible? I understand that some equipment manufacturers do not allow this.
The answer is a qualified yes. Yes, load and run fine, but they require you to activate within 30 days, and you need a valid key for it. This is a complete operating system installation and not an image, so it can run on any PC, as long as you have the activation code. If you install it on a Dell, no code is required. There is something in the installation that checks if it is running on a Dell. Hopefully the CD comes with a valid activation key. Otherwise, you will need to obtain one.
